VOCABULARY UNIT 8

BALANCE SHEET: a statement showing the wealth of a business or organitation at a particular date.

Bankrup: unable to pay your debets.

BOTTOM LINE: The last line on a financial document which shows the final result.

EXPENSE: Money Spent.

FINANCIAL STATEMENT: A document showing the state of the finances of an organisation or business.

FORECAST: an estimate of a future situation.

INCOME STATEMENT: a financial statement showing revenue, expediture and profit from operations during a given period.

MISMANAGEMENT: Poor quality management

PROFIT AND LOSS ACCOUNT: a financial statement showing revenue expediture and profit from operations during a given period.

REGULATOR: a government agency responsible for overseeing a profession or an activity.

SECURITIES EXCHANGE COMMISSION: Agency responsible for stock market regulation.

BACK OFFICE: the departaments of a financial company where routine administrative task are done whithout direc contac with costumers.

BUSINESS PROCESS: any activity that is essencial for a fim to conduct its business.

DATABESE: an organized set of information stored in a computer.

DOWNSIZE: to reduce the number of employees in an organization.

KNOWLEDGE WORK: work that involves developing or using knowledge.

OFFSHORING: transferring work to an outside supplier based in another country.

OUTSOURCE: transferring work to an outside supplier.

OVERHEAD: a cost that does not vary with output.

PILOT PROJET: atrial project test performance.

PRODUCTIVITY: the relationship between the output of goods and resources needed to produce them.

SAVING: money and materials saved by economical working.

SERVICE PROVIDER: a company that provides services for user especially in computer networks.

SHORTAGE: a lack or sarcity of something.

BARRIER TO ENTRY: any factor wich prevents new competition from entering a market.

BENEFIT: an advantage or an improvement.


BRAND: the identity of a product or service.

CONSUMER: person who buys products and/or services.


LOGO: a sign or symbol used as a trademark to represent a compañy or a brand.


MARKETING MIX: the four different components of marketing; PLACE: the distribution and delivery of goods to market, PRICE: the amount of money for wich something can be sold, PRODUCT: normally a manufactured item but also refers to everything that surrounds the product, PROMOTION: activities that help sell a product.

PREMIUM: a price taht is higher than the standard price, usually due to higher quality.


PROMOTION: a method of communicating and publicising a product.

POINT OF SALE: abbreviation POS, the place where a consumer can buy a product or service.
